Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will not be meeting this fall.
Get Ready for Embrace Change 2020
We are looking forward to sharing the 2020 calendar with you. The Fall Series takes place on Wednesday, September 9, 16, 23 and 30.
Fall programming is focused on parents embracing the transition period that they encounter as children leave the nest. Parents will connect with others experiencing the same transition, explore what’s next, and have opportunities to design their personal path for this new stage of life. It’s fun, interactive and full of dialogue and engaging activities. Our fall programming includes visits from life coaches, career development experts, self-care and health-care professionals. The series of programs is set up to promote a smooth transition. Fall programs meet once a week for 4 weeks. This program series is free. Materials fee is $40.00.
Fall Program Series 2019
We offer a day or evening program series. Dates and times follow the program series description below.
Week 1-Promoting Productive Communication with Adult Children
Teresa Simonelli PsyaD
When emerging young adults return home after being on their own for several months, communication between parent and child may change. Dr. Teresa Simonelli, will share how to open yourself up to changes and manage difficult emotions while communicating with your adult children. Program Note: A Welcome Tea will take place from 1:00-1:30 p.m. to celebrate the beginning of the Embrace Change Fall Program Series. Come and meet our team and get to know other attendees before our program begins. Program 1 will immediately follow.
Week 2-What’s Next? Finding Purpose
Heather Zacker, M.S., Certified Personal and Professional Coach
Do you have new found time now that children have left home? Heather Zacker will lead us through exercises to reflect on what’s most important, and methods to determine next steps in living a life of fulfillment, purpose and passion.
Week 3-Navigating Transitions with Self-Care
Charlotte Sahyoun, Yoga Therapeutics Specialist
Are you accustomed to caring and doing for others, but do little for yourself? Often, we equate self-care as self-indulgent, yet research is increasingly demonstrating that taking time for effective self-care, a couple minutes throughout the day helps create stress resilience, a more effective strategy than stress avoidance. Charlotte Sahyoun is a yoga therapeutics specialist with a focus on the intersection of yoga, psychology and neuroscience. She’ll focus on when and how we feel stress and on two-minute tools in which to tune-in to the body for creating emotional balance. This is not a yoga class.
Week 4-Designing Your Journey: Creating Your Own Path
Embrace Change Team
As children begin to leave the home, we as parents may reassess our personal satisfaction with how we spend our time, prioritize new and older projects, and open ourselves up to various new and ongoing curiosities, relationships, career and/or learning opportunities. Come explore how to better balance this time of transition, set new, distinct goals for yourself as roles shift, and create more opportunities for personal growth while charting a path for the future.
Week 5-Expanding Your Horizons: Delving into New Activities and Careers – Panel
We’ll engage in personalized exploration of activities and careers and hear from several guests who have changed careers and explored new interests after their children left home. We will discuss what methods worked for them, the changes they made and how their lives were affected. Their stories will surprise and energize you. We’ll share resources and tools to help you explore the many opportunities that lie ahead in your personal journey. Last year’s Panel: Marta Taylor: Bloom, Floral Studio, Angela Kadlec – Eight Days of Hope volunteer, Heidi Webb – Consilium.Path
Week 6-It’s all about Relationships
Embrace Change Team
Our final program of the series brings everything together. We’ll celebrate fall with seasonal delights, discuss how to increase the quality of our relationships and set healthy boundaries. We’ll hear from Carolyn Bottum, who will share tips on how to care for aging parents while taking care of oneself and ones family. We will end the series with a special guest.
